Exam results for all UL Students are out and you may have some questions. The team at UL Student Life are here to help!
To make things easier, your Academic Officer, Abbie, has put together a quick guide covering everything you need to know about repeats, i-grades and progression decisions, as well as where to turn for support.
First things first, it's important to know that UL Student Life are independent of UL and are not involved in the process of exam results, i-grades or repeats. You will need to contact Academic Registry with any specific queries you have about your actual results or registration. You can log a call with them here.
I need to repeat an exam, how much will it cost?
A repeat fee costs €171 with a max of four repeats when you complete two semesters, with the option of sitting two repeats if you complete one semester. For full details on the fees associated with repeats you can find out more on Top Desk.
Will I still graduate as normal if I have repeats?
4th year students who need to repeat an exam will graduate as part of the January graduation ceremonies, once all exams have been passed. This can be difficult for students, we completely understand. What is an I-grade (Incomplete Grade)?
If you face a sudden crisis just before or during exams that prevents you from sitting an exam, you can apply for an I-grade.
It’s important to note:
- Applying for an I-grade does not guarantee approval, and it has implications.
- A student applying for an I-grade in August will trigger a link-in the module. They must repeat the module during the semester in which it runs and cannot progress to the next year until September 2027.
- Students who have applied for an I-grade cannot attend or commence a scheduled exam. If they do, their result will be void.
You can apply for an i-grade if you're affected by:
- A physical or mental health condition.
- The death of someone close to you.
- Circumstances outside your control (for example, caring responsibilities).
- Pregnancy or related issues.
- Another serious situation that the I-grade Committee should consider.
The I-grade portal closes on Wednesday the 26th of August at 11pm. You can find more information about I-grades and how to apply here through the portal.
