Hi everyone! My name is Síofra foley and I am your Deputy Welfare Officer for this academic year 2024/25.
I am from Killarney, county Kerry and I have just finished up an amazing four years studying Product Design and Technology here in UL.
I am here to support you and help you with any queries you may have regarding your Welfare needs! Whatever that may mean to you! Aswell as helping you all, I sit on numerous committees and boards where I prioritise your welfare above everything else.
I grew up on a farm, so I have always been outdoorsy to say the least. I love most if not all animals and hope to have a few come in and say hello during the year… let’s see how adventurous we can get! I took up DJ’ing last year so you may have seen me on the stage in Stables or bouncing around with my little camera, hopefully you will see a bit more of me DJing again this year! I sew as a hobby so I often make my own clothes for big occasions and would love to host more crafting activities to build this community here in UL.
I became a student officer because I wanted to become more proactive in campus life. It wasn’t until this year I realised how much involvement the officers have in campus life, and I wanted to get stuck in myself. There are plenty of issues on campus that I feel need to be addressed and I wanted to represent the students voice in addressing these issues.
I hope to run events and provide information I feel is important to students throughout the year, without all the fluff. I want to focus on how to prioritise your mental health, sexual health, and physical health. We all know college can get in the way of prioritising ourselves and I want to help you find the balance between college and self care. Life is more than a piece of paper!
You can often find me in my office based on the ground floor of the student life building. If you need me and I am not in my office please reach out to me at studentwelfare@ul.ie. I may be at a meeting but will get back to you as quick as I can! No problem is too big or too small so please reach out to me!
I cant wait to meet as many of you as possible!
