My name is Seán Keaney a.k.a. skeano and I am your Academic Officer for the AY 24/25.
Where are you from?
I am a proud Sligo man!
What did you study?
I studied Business Studies with Spanish majoring in Economics and Finance.
What is your role?
My job here is to work alongside my fellow officers to fight for YOU the students to make college a better experience for all.
What does your role entail?
I do this by representing student academic issues by sitting on 40 UL committees, like Academic Council and The Academic Regulations Committee. By working closely with student council and class reps I take feedback to these committees to ensure the student voice is heard!
Tell us a bit about you?
Now the good stuff, a bit about me! I am a music fanatic who loves all things music especially good music. Right now, I’m listening to a lot of tech-house, Soul/funk and post punk. In my spare time I like to play Minecraft with the boys, mess around on the decks and watch any type of sport that’s on the TV. I love to keep active and try to swim and run as often as I can. One fun fact about me is that I won best dressed at ABBAesque at Charity week 2024.
Why did you become a student officer?
I became a student officer to help students with their academic issues, college is a crazy time for everyone let alone the academic side. I’ve been through it all when it comes to repeats and extra assignments, so I know what its like to feel a bit lost. My goal is to make college that bit easier for students, alleviating some of the stress caused by academic pressure.
What are your goals for the year?
Some of my goals for the year include carrying on the great work my predecessor, Ronan Mannix made in relation to abolishing repeat fees (get the fees gone!) Also, I would like to make the information students receive from various University departments more digestible for students. I have a lot of other ideas that I feel like students would love but id love to hear from YOU the students, reach out and let me know what’s bothering you!
