WITNESS IRELAND TOURS: KILLARNEY SEPT 15TH

Discover Ireland during your time at UL with our guided tours to some of the top destinations and hidden gems dotted around Ireland. Our tour provider offers a truly unique experience, from quirky facts and stories to getting up close and personal with animals and wildlife and soaking in some picturesque views! 

Our first trip of the semester is to Killarney National Park, stopping at Muckross Abbey and Killarney Town. 

Here's a breakdown of the trip itinerary:

Day Trip Itinerary: Killarney National Park,  Muckross Abbey & Killarney Town.

9:00 AM – Depart from Limerick

- Begin your journey from Limerick to Killarney and enjoy the scenic drive through the picturesque Irish countryside.

10:30 AM – Arrive at Muckross Abbey

-Stop Duration: 1 hour
-Explore Muckross Abbey: Discover this 15th-century Franciscan friary, renowned for its well-preserved ruins and tranquil atmosphere, it is something straight from a fantasy novel. Don’t miss the ancient yew tree growing in the centre of the cloister. This tree, which is over 500 years old, has a mystical presence, many believing the tree possesses magical powers, artists have travelled here to touch the tree for creative inspiration.
Fun fact: In the Harry Potter series, yew wood is famously used to make powerful wands, adding a touch of magic to your visit.

11:30 AM – Search for Red Deer

- Duration: 30 minutes
- Activity: As you enter the Killarney National Park area, keep an eye out for the majestic Red Deer, Ireland's largest land mammal. During the rut season, which occurs only in Autumn and September, stags engage in dramatic displays of strength, clashing antlers and roaring loudly to attract mates. It's an incredible wildlife spectacle not to be missed.

12:00 PM – Explore Killarney National Park

- Duration: 2.5 hours
- Muckross Lake: Enjoy a leisurely walk along the scenic shores of Muckross Lake, taking in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and serene waters. The tranquil setting is perfect for relaxation and photography.
-Torc Waterfall: Visit this beautiful 20-metre waterfall, walk through beautiful lush authentic Irish forest to get there.
- Muckross Gardens: Explore the beautifully manicured Muckross Gardens, known for their vibrant and impressive flower and plant species. Perfect for a photo oppertunity.

2:30 PM – Arrive in stunning Killarney Town

- Duration: 2.5 hours
- Explore Killarney Town: Explore the lively streets of Killarney, where you'll find a mix of local shops selling Irish crafts, souvenirs, and woollen goods. The town’s atmosphere is inviting, with friendly locals and a bustling vibe.
- Visit St. Mary’s Cathedral: Take some time to visit this beautiful neo-Gothic cathedral, known for its striking architecture and tranquil interior.
- Relax: Unwind in one of Killarney's traditional pubs or cafes. Enjoy some local Irish cuisine, have a pint of Guinness, or relax with a coffee while soaking in the lively atmosphere and perhaps listening to some live traditional music.

5:00 PM – Depart Killarney for Limerick

- Return to Limerick, enjoying the scenic drive through parts of County Kerry.

6:30/7:00 PM – Arrive Back in Limerick

Return to Limerick after a day filled with history, nature, Irish culture and a phone full of amazing photos.

These tickets are available to purchase from UL Student Life Information & Service Desk between 9am-9.45pm Monday to Thursday and until 4pm on Friday. Frequent destinations include the Cliffs of Moher, Guinness Storehouse, Aran Island and the Ring of Kerry. Keep an eye on UL Student Life’s website and social media pages for upcoming tours and destinations.

Tickets start from €40.00 and must be pre-purchased (please note: tickets cannot be bought on the day from the bus driver)
