We are hiring our Student Media team for the 2024/2025 semester. We're looking for students who are media savvy to lead our student newspaper, podcast and radio station.
We want to cover the issues affecting students, cover events and stories our student body are interested in and be on the beat when it comes to news, politics, entertainment and culture.
An Focal Newspaper
An Focal Newspaper Editor / Editorial Team
We are hiring an An Focal Editor who will help us breathe life into the student newspaper, with a goal of publishing a physical printed edition once a semester.
The An Focal editor will oversee the editoral team, producing and editing the website/printed edition and proofing stories submitted by contrbutors.
Commitment - 7 hours per week / 1 day per week
Salary - €12.70 per hour
Requirements: Journalism/media experience is desirable, copywriting and poofing skills is essential, and knowledge of defamation/libal laws is preferable.
Interested in overseeing one particlar area of the newspaper that you have a particular Grá for? We are looking for Sports, News, Features and Arts and Culture editors too to join the team!
An Focal Contributors
While we actively encourage student journalists to get involved, you don't need to be in media studies to contribute to An Focal, we are looking for people with a creative flair who are interested in anything from news and current affairs to sports, arts and culture. There is no time commitment to this, articles can be pitched or submitted to our An Focal editor throughout the semester. If you have a story to share that the students should hear, we want to hear from you!
'Are UL?' Podcast
We're on the hunt for 2 x new hosts of our Are UL? Podcast - following the massive success of this years podcast, with guests such as Garron Noone and Pat Shortt, we are hoping to make next years series even bigger and better!
We are looking for 2 x fun, bubbly, creative podcast hosts to take the reigns from Nicola and Joe and put their stamp on the Student Life podcast.
If you have experince with podcasting, can record, produce and edit your own shows and have a few contacts up your sleeve, then we want to hear from you!
This is a great opportunity for any media students who are keen to gain experience in the industry or for any students who podcast on the side, outside of their studies.
Commitment - 7 hours per week / 1 day per week
Salary - €12.70 per hour
Requirements: Podcast experience/ ability to use equipment and editing software is essential. Journalism/media experience is desirable, knowledge of defamation/libal laws is a bonus.
Media Hub / Radio Station
In Autumn 2024, a new state-of-the-art Media Hub will open in our new Student Centre. This includes a brand new radio studio, TV studio and Podcast Hub. This will be a hive of activity for any media students, creative students and those who would like to explore their passion for media/podcasting outside of their academics.
Radio Station Administrator
We are hiring a Radio Station Administrator to oversee the day to day running of the radio station. You will oversee the programme schedule, support students who are broadcasting on air and offer training, guidance and support when needed! You will be the main point of contact for any students who wish to use the radio studio, in line with our fair usage policy!
This is a brand new space and a very exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for broadcasting to join our media team. It is a prime opportunity for someone starting our in their media career to get hands on experience in the field, overseeing a high spec, newly fitted out studio.
Commitment - Min 20 hours per week (Please note: This is a permanant position, including out of term time)
Salary - Competitive / subject to candidates exprience and skillset
Requirements: Journalism/Broadcasting experience essential, studio/editing software skills desirable, knowledge of defamation/libal laws and BAI guidelines is preferable.
Media Hub Administrator
We are hiring a Media Hub Administrator to join our growing team! You will oversee the day to day running of our brand new Media Hub in the new Student Centre, which includes a TV studio, Radio studio and podcast hub.
You will act as the main contact for any students who wish to book a space in the media hub, ensuring fair usage and overseeing the booking and usage of equipment. You will also help to train students in the media hub equipment and help identify funding and collabroation opportunities.
This role is an exciting opportunity for anyone keen to break into the media industry who is starting out in their career and passionate about amplifying the student voice on campus.
