Everything you need to know about accessing results, grade rechecks, repeats, and where to find support
Exam results for all UL Students are out this week! Understandably, you may have some questions about your results or even about accessing your results. The team at UL Student Life are here to help and hopefully answer any questions you might have about results. We have put together a quick guide with everything you need to know about results, repeats and progression and where to turn to for support.
First things first, it's important to know that UL Student Life are independent of UL and are not involved in the process of exam results or repeats. You will need to contact Academic Registry with any specific queries you have about your registration/ grade rechecks. Here is the link to topdesk: Login (topdesk.net)
How can I access my results?
You can view your transcript on the Student Portal www.si.ul.ie throughout the academic year. You will need your password and student number to access your results.
I forgot my password and can't log in to my account, how do I reset it?
To reset your password, follow these steps:
- Go to https://portal.office.com/
- Enter your email address
- Select 'Can't access your account?'
- Follow on screen instructions
How can I view my script?
If you are unhappy with your results the first step is to view your script: Exams: Viewing Your Scripts - UL
You must contact the department responsible for the module that you wish to view. Script viewings will be held on the 23rd and 24th of January 2024.
How can I apply for a grade recheck?
If after viewing your script, you would like to apply for a grade re-check, you can do this from 20th January to February 4th. Grade re-checks cost €25, but this fee will be returned if the grade is changed. Please be aware that your grade can go up or down so it might be worth waiting until you have viewed your script to progress with the re-check. It's worth noting that your grade recheck is completed by the same person who originally marked your exam.
You can apply for a grade recheck up to two weeks after the date that your examination results are officially published. The process to apply and pay can be found on this link: Grading: Grade Recheck. It takes up to three weeks for a recheck result to be issued. If your grade recheck is successful, the card you used to pay for will have the fee refunded to it.
How do I appeal my grade recheck?
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of a grade recheck, you may appeal the decision within two weeks of receiving the recheck result. It costs €50 to appeal a grade recheck. Information and the application process can be found on this link: Grading: Appealing a Recheck.
I need help understanding my progression decision
If you did not reach the required QCA or clear a module during the repeat exams to move into your next year, you should have received an email with a progression decision from UL Academic Registry. If you need support in understanding your progression decision please contact Nicole or Shane from our Advice Team at advicehub@ul.ie.
More information around progression can be found through this link: Progression: Minimum Standards for Progression.
I failed an exam or my QCA is below 2. What now?
You will receive an email with your progression decision on results day. If you failed an exam you will need to repeat the module during the summer repeats. A repeat fee costs €171 with a max of 4 repeats when you complete 2 semesters. You have the option of sitting 2 repeats if you complete 1 semester. For full details on the fees associated with repeats you can find out more on Top Desk.
I am in fourth year. Will I still graduate as normal if I have repeats?
Fourth year students who need to repeat an exam will graduate as part of the January graduation ceremonies, once all exams have been passed. This can be difficult for students, we completely understand. If you would like to speak to one of our team about this, you can book in with Shane or Nicole.
I need advice or support understanding my results and what it means for me, who can help?
If you require further additional advice and information, you can meet one of our student advisors. Please book in with Shane or Nicole from our Advice Team using the following link: ulstudentlife.ie/student-advice/.
We would be happy to chat to you about your situation and options. Our team can help students understand their progression decision and talk through financial concerns you may have during this period. The Student Engagement and Support Officers (SESO's) for each faculty are also available to officer support during this time. You can contact them through the link: ul.ie/student-affairs/seso/student-engagement-success-officers
